Joanna Jana Laznicka Metal Detectorists
Joanna Jana Laznicka, Focus Speed Founder

Focus Speed is a research-driven metal detecting publication built for detectorists, archaeologists, geophysicists, and treasure hunters who want more than basic hobby advice. Founded in 2021, Focus Speed publishes field-informed content on relic hunting, beach detecting, park coin shooting, treasure hunting, historical site research, metal detecting gear, interviews, and responsible recovery.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help readers uncover better finds, ask better questions, and approach metal detecting with deeper knowledge, stronger research habits, and a greater respect for history. Focus Speed was created to raise the standard of written content in the hobby by publishing material that is useful, experience-based, historically informed, and trustworthy.

What We Cover

Focus Speed covers a wide range of topics for serious detectorists and history-minded readers, including beach detecting, relic hunting, park coin shooting, treasure hunting, historical site research, metal detecting equipment, interviews, events, and responsible detecting. Our content is designed to support both skill development in the field and a deeper understanding of the places people search, from coastal beaches and public parks to old homesites, camps, and historically significant locations.

What Makes Focus Speed Different

What sets Focus Speed apart is its emphasis on research-driven, field-informed content. We do not focus only on surface-level hobby tips. Instead, we combine practical metal detecting knowledge with historical research, land-use history, site analysis, and real-world field experience across a range of environments, including beaches, parks, relic sites, and historically overlooked places. Our goal is to help readers not only improve their finds, but also better understand the historical context behind their finds and the importance of responsible recovery.

Founded by Joanna Jana Laznicka

Focus Speed was founded in June 2021 by Joanna Jana Laznicka to help fill a clear gap in the hobby: the lack of high-quality, research-driven written content for intermediate and advanced metal detectorists. Before launching Focus Speed, Joanna helped grow the audiences of All Metal Mode Metal Detecting Blog and Dirt Digest Metal Detecting Magazine, gaining firsthand insight into the type of information detectorists need to improve their skills, research methods, and field success.

In addition to leading Focus Speed, Joanna works closely with archaeology firms, geophysics companies, government agencies, and museums. Her background in historical research, land-use history, historic site analysis, and advanced metal detecting helps shape the publication’s editorial direction and strengthens its commitment to responsible recovery and historically informed content.

Editorial Trust

Focus Speed is committed to publishing content that is accurate, transparent, and experience-based. To help readers understand the people behind the publication, we maintain a dedicated Editorial Team page. To explain how we approach accuracy, sourcing, updates, disclosures, and content quality, we also maintain an Editorial Standards page. These pages are part of our ongoing effort to build trust, provide transparency, and maintain a high standard of editorial integrity.
